Which Motorbike Jacket ?

When choosing a motorbike jacket there are various factors that need to be considered. Firstly, many people consider the style of a jacket when really the main priority (provided you are going to use it whilst riding) is that it will give you that extra protection you need in the case that you should be unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident.

Clearly any jacket constructed with fashion as its number 1 priority is going to fail in terms of safety. Although you  may think this will not happen to you, there is always the possibility as various stats will tell you, so making sure you have done everything in your power to optimize safety levels is of up-most importance. Most recently airbag jackets have been made available on the uk market which mirror the effect of car air bags, inflating in the case of an accident. An Airbag Jacket has the potential to save lives and do a great job of protecting the vital organs. Increasingly more common in todays riders this is definitely an option to consider.

Leather or Synthetic

Now, generally you are left with two basic choices, either that of a leather jacket or other synthetic jackets, which can incorporate a range of fabrics. Plainly and simply in the authors experience it is recommended to opt for a leather jacket over any other material.

The reasoning behind this, supported by many sources should you have the time to look, ( this isn’t an academic article so i wont list sources) is that has been proven to consistently outperform any other forms of fabric and is less likely to enable serious injury.  Some of the thicker synthetic fabrics can have a great deal of protection but when weighed up against the cost and long term durability it is generally better to go for leather. The choice of those in theknow how is always that of cow hide leather, making sure to avoid any cheaper imitations.
